David Vermette, MD, an assistant professor of medicine in the Division of General Medicine & Geriatrics and of pediatrics in the Division of Hospital Medicine at WashU Medicine, has been named a 2026 Macy Faculty Scholar by the Josiah Macy Jr. Foundation. The group supports early-career physician-educators in their efforts to improve the education of physicians and nurses.

Vermette, also an associate director for the Internal Medicine Residency program and a longitudinal coach for medical students, was one of five scholars selected in the U.S. Among the award’s benefits, the scholars receive funding and protected time for projects. Vermette’s research is focused on well-being in medical education, with an emphasis on how to prevent resident burnout.

For more information on Vermette and the honor, see the announcements made by the John T. Milliken Department of Medicine and the Macy Foundation.
