Francesca Ferraro, MD, PhD, an assistant professor of medicine at WashU Medicine who treats patients at Siteman Cancer Center, based at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and WashU Medicine, has received a 2026 Damon Runyon Clinical Investigator Award. The grant, given by the Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation, supports early-career physician-scientists conducting patient-oriented research.

Ferraro, also a research member of Siteman, is studying acute myeloid leukemia (AML), an aggressive blood cancer. Her work aims to better understand the mechanisms that allow AML to suppress immune responses and to identify strategies that could help the immune system and chemotherapy work together more effectively.
